Health & Safety file

What is the Heath & Safety or H&S File?

Where projects involve more than one contractor, the CDM Regulations require the client ensures the principal designer prepares a health and safety file so that, at the end of the project, the client is in possession of information anyone carrying out subsequent work on the building will need to know to plan and carry out that work safely.

Mosaic helps you produce a comprehensive H&S file by providing a structure and suggested document list for you to complete, and which the application automatically updates as the project proceeds.

As you complete the HARI within Mosaic and add documents to the system they are compiled into the PCI and H&S file in a clear, concise and easily understandable form, which can be conveniently accessed by any project participant at any time via the project dashboard.

the H&S file does not need to include information about the construction process, unless it may affect future works (that information goes in the construction phase plan). It does not need to include contractual information, pre-construction information or information about the normal operation of the completed structure (which may be included in the building owner's manual or the building log book).

Where designers are not able to eliminate risks from the design, they must ensure appropriate information is included in the health and safety file, upload a Residual Risk Statement via the H&F file menu. The principal contractor must also provide the principal designer with information for inclusion in the health and safety file.
